Awangarda is the largest gallery in the BWA Wroclaw area (over 1000 sq meters of exhibition surface). It is situated in the former Hatzfeld palace, which, after war damages, has been preserved as a “living ruin”, and adapted to exhibiting the modern art.

The aim of the gallery’s operation is to present and popularize the current activity of the creators, in a wider context of cultural problems. Except for the displays, we organize meetings with the authors, artists and curators, critics, anthropologists and historians of art, as well as workshops for children and young people, which introduce the youngest into the issues of visuality and creativity. Awangarda presents the classics of Polish modern art, problem presentations of domestic and European art, borders of visual arts and theatre, film, performance and music. The institution is open to cooperation with artists and independent curators. It continuously cooperates with the Wroclaw Academy of Fine Arts, organizing graduation displays for graduates of all faculties. For many years it has been a co-organizer of the National Exhibition of Painting of the Young, and the Geppert Contest, which is one of the more important nationwide reviews of the young Polish painting.
