The Market Square

It is the heart of Wroclaw, vibrant with life at all times. It is one of the largest urban complexes of this type in Europe.

In its centre are the Sukiennice and the edifice of the City Hall, which is a monument of Gothic and renaissance culture, unique in Europe. The elements of its decoration are connected with the history and symbolism of Wroclaw – the oldest city coat of arms, created in 1534, is at the top of the 66 m high tower.
The city hall, a former seat of the local authorities, now houses the City Museum of Art. In front of its eastern façade stands the pillory (a faithful copy of the medieval one, destroyed in 1945), in front of the western façade – monument of Aleksander Fredro, moved here from Lviv in 1946. The market square is on four sides surrounded with citizen tenements, the most valuable of which are: Under Seven Electors, Under Golden Sun, and Jaś i Małgosia (Hansel and Gretel).

In the evening, the Market Square in Wroclaw changes into a bustling and busy centre, where you can enjoy your time in numerous restaurants, cafes and gardens.
