Capital of the region

Lower Silesia occupies the south-western part of Poland. It borders with the Czech Republic, Germany, and the Opole, Greater Poland, and Lubusz provinces.. Its surface area is 19 948 km2, which makes up for about 6.4% of the country surface. It has 2 893.1 thousand of inhabitants. The whole Lower Silesia is situated in the river basin of Odra, except for the areas next to the southern border, which are situated in the river basin of Danube and Elbe. The largest natural water body is the Sławskie Lake. The most important geographical lands are: the Sudetes, the Foreland of the Sudetes, and the Silesian Lowlands. The highest peak is Snieżka – 1602 metres above seal level. The highest part of the Foreland of the Sudetes is the Massif of Ślęża.
