Lviv

Lviv is situated in western Ukraine, on the Podolian Upland, on the Poltva river.

Is has 830 thousand inhabitants. The city’s location on the border of two water basins, Baltic and the Black Sea, caused many trade routes to intersect in this region in the past, which spurred the development of the city. For the longest part of its history, Lviv belonged to Poland, which is why many traces of Polish culture can be found here. At the beginning of the 20th century, the local Polish community played an important role in the rebuilding of Poland.

Among numerous monuments in Lviv, these are definitely worth seeing:  14th – century ruins of Casimir’s the Great castle, Armenian Cathedral with Józef Mehoffer’s mosaic in the dome, Latin Cathedral with the Chapel of Boim family, Wołoski Orthodox Church, Golden Rose Synagogue, Uniat Cathedral, renaissance Black Tenement which houses the Lviv Historical Museum, Sobieski’s Tenement, called the Royal Tenement.
It is worth to notice that some works of art and culture moved from Lviv are in Wroclaw. These include: the Racławice Panorama, Osolineum Library, and statue of Aleksander Fredro.
